Although
swamp areas are dispersed throughout southern Africa, the
most famous is without a doubt, the Okavango
Delta in Botswana.
The
wealth of fauna here is unsurpassed elsewhere in Africa.
The
three habitat types – water channels and laggons; bands
of large forest trees
and bushy fringes along waterways; and dry woodlands –
provide myriad niches for the diversified and specialized
fauna.
Birdlife
is prolific.
